Press Release: A.L.P.® Purchases Key Assets of Sur-Seal Optical Molding Business

(Niles, IL) A.L.P.® has expanded our industry-leading optical silicone molding capabilities by purchasing molding machines and other key assets from Sur-Seal LLC.  The equipment is installed in the Charlevoix, MI facility and is operational.  As a result, A.L.P. will have six presses capable of molding Liquid Silicone Rubber (LSR) in Charlevoix and has plans to expand this technology to our Monterrey, MX facility in fiscal year 2023.  Sur-Seal, in turn, will turn their focus to the core business of producing silicone gaskets.

“A.L.P. sees a great future in optical silicone molding for LED outdoor, industrial and automotive lighting applications,” states Tom Barnes, Vice President and Business Unit Manager.  “The opportunity to cooperate with Sur-Seal in this equipment transfer, as they transition out of LSR optics, puts A.L.P. in a strong position to fulfill that emerging demand,” he adds.

A.L.P.’s tie-barless molding machines have advanced production features, including a built-in conveyor, ERC robot, Electro Servo injection, and coining technology. We can currently mold silicone parts up to 200 square inches.  This precision silicone equipment, combined with our tooling and optical engineering expertise, makes A.L.P. a superior business partner to quickly take projects from concept to production.

Press Release: A.L.P. Introduces LENA 16™, a Cost-Effective, High Performing, Low Profile Reflector

(Niles, IL) -A.L.P. Lighting Components, a leading global manufacturer of lighting components and kits, has added the LENA 16™ shallow prismatic reflector to the “S Series” of optics.  Designed for low-, mid- and high-bay LED fixtures, it offers superior glare control and an elegant aesthetic, combined with the versatility to accommodate a variety of light sources without expensive modifications.

The LENA 16 has a shallow design, optimizing cost without sacrificing high angle brightness control.  The 10.36” flat top allows it to be easily adapted and directly attached to many fixtures. The lower flange works with a wide range of bottom lenses and standard clamp bands.  The top can be cut to order with an opening of up to 10.66 inches.

Like their HID predecessors, today’s LED low-, mid- and high-bay fixtures should always be installed with optical or refractive control.  Without this control, they emit high angle glare, causing a reduction in contrast and negatively affecting color and focus.  By reducing high angle glare, LENA 16 improves visual comfort, provides even illumination, and can also increase worker efficiency in some settings.  It is suitable for warehouse, industrial, commercial, and retail applications.

LENA 16 is available in Clear Acrylic, Clear Polycarbonate, Interface Acrylic, and Lumieo® Acrylic.  It works with a wide range of LexaLite® brand bottom lenses.

A.L.P. is a leading global supplier of lighting components, offering a diverse line of products and services for lighting OEMs and the aftermarket. From LED to legacy applications, A.L.P. offers the industry’s most comprehensive line of LED fixture kits, vapor-proof enclosures, unwired fixture bodies, louvers and reflectors. A.L.P. Brands include Steel Craft, LexaLite®, and Reflek®

A.L.P. Adds New Edgelit Panel Equipment

A.L.P. Lighting Components, manufacturer of LED lighting components and fixture kits, has added to its industry-leading capacity to produce molded edgelit lighting panels.  Taking advantage of Rambus closing its Brecksville, OH facility, A.L.P. purchased a 1,650-ton press, molds and other equipment to be installed in its Charlevoix, MI plant.  A.L.P.’s LexaLite® brand has been at the forefront of edgelit technology for more than three decades, with preeminent production resources, expertise, and mold inventory.  A.L.P. is currently the only North American manufacturer capable of injection molding both 1’x4’ and 2’x2’ edgelit panels.

By using standard molds with custom inserts, A.L.P. can quickly and inexpensively manufacture prototypes and low-volume production runs.  Standard sizes include 48” x 12”, 24” x 12”, 24” x 8” and 24” x 24”.  For large production orders, A.L.P.’s expert tooling and engineering teams can develop high volume tooling based on customers’ specifications for size, light source, light output pattern, thickness, and aesthetics.  A.L.P. also has in-house CAD modeling and photometry testing resources.

Edgelit panels have gained increasing popularity for maximizing and retrofitting in-ceiling lighting.  Flat edgelit panels are very thin, offering the versatility of mounting on a variety of surfaces including walls and ceilings, as well as providing the option of cable suspension.  They are often considered “shadowless” because they produce broad, even light.

“We work closely with customers to meet all requirements for performance, cost, and speed to market,” states Tom Barnes, Vice President and Business Unit Manager for A.L.P. LexaLite.  “By further investing in edgelit molding technology, A.L.P. can respond even more quickly to the needs of a rapidly changing lighting marketplace,” Barnes concludes.
